I work at a residential school for students with social, emotional, and behavior disorders. I am the special educator in charge of the Individual Education Plans that spell out the nature of each and every disorder, and attempt to correct all of them. While also teaching math and reading or something. While this is a position I actively sought, my school is also undergoing some serious changes that make it difficult for me to do my job - like giving me all of the English classes to teach on top of special education. For the time being, anyway.
I actually enjoy what I do, and our school is on its way to being a seriously kickin' place to work and learn - especially because it serves all those kids that teachers in a public school dread. The key is to have the right philosophy and the right resources. And I started a blog to help provide both. Or at least, just to entertain people with some pretty good stories.
Fair warning - it is very wordy, and not very cutesy. I thought we needed a more realistic teaching blog, not one covered with pictures of crayons, apples, and chalkboards. Enjoy!
